A high-powered delegation from the United States will visit India from June 1 to 4 to carry forward the discussions between the two countries on a much-anticipated Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), it was officially announced here on Wednesday.

The delegation, to be led by the US chief negotiator, is expected to finalise the details of the interim agreement and take forward the negotiations under the broader BTA on multiple areas such as market access, non tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion and economic security environment.

The two countries have been negotiating a trade deal since February 2025 but have not been able to resolve some of the key issues. However, India and the US issued a Joint Statement on 7 February 2026 agreeing on a framework for an interim agreement regarding reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.

The framework reaffirmed the countries’ commitment to the broader India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations. In pursuance thereof, an Indian team visited Washington from 20-23 April for in person round of meetings with US negotiators.
